Portuguese Society

If you are interested in Portuguese language or the culture of any Lusophone country, our society is the place for you.

Hello! Bom dia!

We are the Glasgow University Portuguese Society, passionate about all things Lusophone. If you are interested in Portuguese language or the culture of any Lusophone country, our society is the place for you. We host all kinds of events both in English and in Portuguese so our love for Lusophone cultures can reach everyone, stretching beyond the Portuguese classes.

Besides the language exchanges, where you can improve your Portuguese with other people of varying levels, we also hold cultural events where you can expand your horizons, just like the famous Portuguese explorers did a couple of centuries ago. Whether you prefer the melancholic tunes of fado or you’d rather move your hips to the rhythms of samba, we are convinced that you will find something to enjoy listening to during our musical events. Our cultural talks and social events are often held in Portuguese or Brazilian themed bars and restaurants, where you can not only learn something new and enjoy yourself, but also taste traditional Lusophone dishes and drinks, such as bolinhos de queijo (amazing cheese stuffed dough balls) or caipirinha (Brazil’s national cocktail).
We would be delighted to meet you on our next event, whether you are in your final year of a degree in Portuguese, or know nothing about the Lusophone world. Come along to explore with us the rich cultures of Portuguese-speaking countries, stretching from Brazil all the way to East Timor.
