Young people

We support students to work with children and young people in a variety of settings, and these opportunities will involve you having PVG membership.

Please register and apply for any of these opportunities via volunteering.glasgowstudent.net and contact volunteering@src.gla.ac.uk if you have any questions.

Classroom Support

We have links with a number of schools in the Glasgow area and are able to offer 10 week placements to students who wish to help out as a Classroom Support Assistant. While you are able to request nursery, primary, secondary or additional support placements, demand for places in schools is very high and we cannot guarantee you will get your first preference. Placements last for 10 weeks, normally a couple of hours per week to suit you and the school in which you are placed. Typically you might offer support on a one to one or small group basis, and can agree activities with the school at the start of your placement. You are able to find your own placements if you wish, but please speak to the GU Volunteering team if you are considering this option. It is recommended that students seriously consider if they have the time available to take part in this programme and to submit an application and PVG by the end of February-March at the latest to ensure they can volunteer in this academic year.

Youth Community Support Agency (YCSA)

YCSA looks for volunteers who can support young people from the BME (Black Minority Ethnic) community to achieve their goals.  Volunteers can support young people on a one to one basis, working on their individual care plans. This may include support with ESOL (English as a Second Language), job hunting, literacy and numeracy.

Big Noise Govanhill

Big Noise Govanhill works with children to help them transform their lives through music. They run after school clubs and holiday clubs for children in Govanhill centred on learning music. As a volunteer you will be part of a warm, fun and dynamic team who mentor the children along their path. You will become a positive role model in their lives and become someone they look forward to seeing. We are looking for volunteers to support us in our after school and holiday clubs.
