Flexible & short term

If you are unsure of your ongoing availability and want to undertake an opportunity that is more flexible, then these options might suit you best.

Please register and apply for any of these opportunities via volunteering.glasgowstudent.net.  For more information and to keep up-to-date, please contact us at volunteering@src.gla.ac.uk, and follow us on our Twitter and Facebook channels!

Charity Shops

We have partnerships with local charity shops, including Shelter, British Heart Foundation and Oxfam.  In a charity shop you will be expected to give a couple of hours every week/fortnight to help out with the general running of the shop. Duties might include handling and sorting donated goods, displaying items for sale, dealing with customers.

Cranhill Development Trust

This is a community organisation based in a deprived community to the north east of Glasgow city centre. They provide a range of supports and activities to local long term unemployed residents and to asylum seekers.
They offer very flexible volunteering opportunities, including being able to turn up for one shift, to volunteering for a short block of time, and there are many things you can do to help them, from helping with regular groups to reception duties.

GUSH

This popular student run opportunity works alongside other agencies to maintain a twice weekly year round presence at a soup kitchen for the homeless located in the city centre. Volunteers are sent a “Doodle Poll” link every month and chose when they might be available. If there is availability they will be matched up for a shift on a Wednesday or Saturday evening, between approximately 8 – 10pm. Volunteers who carry out 3 shifts in the course of a year will be able to fill in a HEAR (Higher Education Achievement Report) log. Demand is high for this, and it may not be possible for everyone to get three shifts.
