Best Buddies

Best Buddies is a global volunteer movement aimed at creating one-to-one friendships for people with learning disabilities. Founded in America by the Kennedy-Shriver family, it has participants across 50+ countries, and has been running in association with students from the University of Glasgow and members of Enable Glasgow, since 2007.

The Best Buddies project in Glasgow runs throughout term-time each year, with relevant training at the start of term and assistance to make a PVG application (Protecting Vulnerable Adults scheme — previously called Disclosure Scotland). Group events for everyone involved in the project are run every 6 weeks or so throughout term time and include activities such as bowling, pizza nights and parties at Enable Glasgow’s Head Office. Buddies are matched depending on their interests/personality, and once you have been paired up with a Buddy, you are expected to meet with them fortnightly and do activities you both enjoy.

Whether you want to be a committee member, or just a participant of the project, Best Buddies is a great opportunity to meet new people, boost your CV, develop your skills and take an active part in an exciting and relatively new project.

Support is given throughout the project by Enable Glasgow staff and also the Buddy Presidents, who are students at Glasgow University. For more information, visit — Best Buddies or Enable Glasgow’s website — Enable Glasgow
