GUSRC argues for fairer approach to rent levels

Our response to the Scottish Government consultation on a new tenancy for the private rented sector

The SRC has responded to the Scottish Government’s Consultation on a new tenancy for the private rented sector by arguing for a fairer approach to rent setting in the private sector that will make rent levels more affordable to students. In the response we state that while some rents may be proportionate to the landlords mortgage on the property “this cannot be the sole criterion to determine rent levels, even if it means the landlord may be operating at a loss.”

We also argue for a more equitable approach to eviction that doesn’t give the landlord all the cards. Our full response is available as a PDF: Consultation on a new tenancy for the private rented sector – GUSRC response.
