GUSRC Events – Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct explains the rules which GUSRC expects event attendees and organisers to abide by.

Why do we have a code of conduct?

We believe our online and physical spaces should be free from harassment, bullying or hate. Our spaces should be safe for all those using them, and everyone who participates in a GUSRC event has a responsibility to help us achieve this.

All attendees, speakers, hosts and volunteers at our events are required to agree with the following code of conduct. We will enforce this code throughout the event and we expect cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody.

CODE OF CONDUCT

We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, or religion (or lack thereof). We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form.

Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any of our online events, including talks, workshops, socials, or other event types. Event participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event at the discretion of the event organisers.

Please act with respect for others and abide by the terms of the Code of Conduct of the University of Glasgow.

Participants who display any harassing behaviour will be asked to leave the event immediately, or will be removed from the event by the event organiser.

If you witness or experience harassment, please notify the event organiser immediately so that steps can be taken to remove participants. Harassment, bullying and hate speech should be reported to UofG Report and Support. The GUSRC Advice Centre are a third-party reporting centre for harassment and bullying – see information about reporting here.

Event organisers, providers and hosts are also subject to this code.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

For your safety, please do not exchange personal phone numbers, personal email addresses or local addresses with any students during an online event. Exchanging social media accounts is the recommended way to make new contacts when at an online event.

If during any event you feel uncomfortable and want to be moved into a different breakout room, or just want to leave, let an event organiser know.

On-campus / Physical Events

Please first watch the #TeamUofG on campus video before coming to any event on campus. It explains our expectations by way of the safety regulations ourselves and the University of Glasgow have in place.

FACE COVERINGS

Please wear a protective face covering in all communal spaces on campus. If you cannot wear a face covering for a valid reason please make the event organiser aware.

FEELING UNWELL

If you or anyone in your household has any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay at home and do not come onto campus. If you experience symptoms during an event, please leave immediately. Your household is anyone you live with.

STRICT HYGIENE

Please maintain an excellent hand washing regime and use hand sanitiser when hand washing is not possible.

TICKETS AND TIME

Please stick to your allocated time slots as per the instructions of your tickets for events. If you are more than 10 minutes early or late for an event, we may not be able to admit you.

Similarly, if you show up without your ticket, we may not be able to admit you. Please be prepared to show your ticket to event organisers, staff or security to prove you are in the right place.

TOILETS & REFRESHMENTS

There will be access to toilets for each event you attend, but please be aware some toilet access may be limited. We would recommend going to the toilet off campus before attending a physical event.

Similarly, refreshment options in events will be limited. Please do not bring any food to events. Water and cold drinks are permitted. No food or water will be provided at events. The University catering outlets across campus are open for takeaway food and drinks (view their hours here)

Failure to comply with the items listed above may result in your expulsion from our events  should we choose. Please respect staff and your fellow students.
