Bookshop FAQs
Selling Your Books
Q. How do I go about selling my books through the SRC?
A. Contact us and let us know which books you wish to sell (including title, author and year of publication or edition number). We’ll tell you whether we can accept your books for sale or not. Then bring them to the bookshop during our opening hours and we will ask you to complete a short information card for each book, giving your contact details, book information, and the price of the book.
Q. How much money will I receive for my books?
A. You set the price of your own books but we strongly recommend that you price your books at least one-third less than the original price. The SRC takes a one-third commission on this price – so, for example, if you price your book at £15.00, you will make £10.00 from your book. However, you will only receive your share of the sale price AFTER someone has bought your book. The SRC does not buy books from students. Once your book has sold, we will contact you by email to let you know that you have money to collect.
Q. I am leaving Glasgow and I want to sell my books. How can I receive the money when my books are sold?
A. There are several ways to receive your money remotely. You can arrange for another person to collect your money on your behalf. If you have more than £5.00 to collect, we can arrange to send you a cheque. We are unable to transfer funds abroad electronically.
Q. What happens if my book does not sell?
A. We will offer your book for sale for a minimum of 18 months. If your book does not sell in this time, we will contact you and request that you either reduce the price of your book or that you come and take it away. You may also choose to donate your book to the SRC, in which case the book will be sold for a very low price and any profits will be donated to the SRC’s charitable fund. We will always attempt to contact students in these situations, however, it is the responsibility of the student to provide us with up-to-date contact details so we can keep you informed about your books.
Buying Books
Q. How can I find out if the book I want is in stock?
A. Our complete database of available books is now online at http://www.glasgowstudent.net/services/bookshop. You can search the database by title or by author. If you require further information, you can contact us with any questions.
Q. How can I reserve a book to collect later?
A. Please check our database to see if we have the book you require in stock. Then call or email us with the details of the book you wish to reserve. Please include the title, author, price and edition number (if necessary) of the book. The SRC may be able to reserve books for three days, however, in September and October books may only be held for one working day.
Q. What is your refund policy?
A. The SRC does not offer refunds for any books in any circumstances. We always recommend that you check the details of the books you need before making a purchase.
