#lecrec Update

VP Education Hannah-May Todd gives a festive update of the great work on our #lecrec campaign

Since the launch of our #lecrec myself and academic representatives within the SRC have been making lots of progress to make lecture recording more widespread across the university. As we approach the festive break I thought it would be good to give you a quick update on the progress we’ve made so far

INCREASE IN LECTURE RECORDING

As part of our partnership with Central Timetabling, we’ve been able to find out that we have been able to increase the events in which lecture recording has been requested for a room with lecture recording capabilities. This increase has seen 255 events (in Semester 1 of academic year 2016/7) jump up to 454 events in semester 1 to day – almost double!

GETTING FEEDBACK FROM YOU AND STAFF

A lot of our class representatives and students have emailed me asking to be involved in the campaign – many as a result of the Class Rep Mixer we held last week. Part of the campaign aims is for class reps and students to push for this by speaking to lecturers or raising the issues at Staff Student Liaison Committees (SSLCs) so it’s great to see you all want to get involved. I’ve also been meeting with teaching staff from various schools and colleges discussing any concerns about changing the policy and demonstrating the positive changes this could have for their students.

SMG COMMITMENT

As you may have seen, we wrote to the university’s Senior Management Group (SMG) about the over-recruitment of students this year and the impact this could have on the overall experience. As a result of this letter, SMG have committed to enabling funds to increase lecture recording capabilities across the university – RESULT!

AIMING TO CHANGE THE LECTURE RECORDING POLICY

I going to be meeting with staff in Learning Enhancement and Academic Development Services (LEADS) to examine the current policy and see how we can improve this.

We’ve made great progress so far but Semester 2 will mean another push for the campaign and I need you all to get involved. To find out more about #lecrec and to get involved, do not hesitate to get in touch by emailing me at hannah-may.todd@src.gla.ac.uk
