Further Additional Time for Timed Online Exams

This message is directed at students who require additional time in timed online exams for a disability-related reason.

Hello, we hope that you are all well and coping okay with the start of the Spring exam diet.

We are writing to make students aware of a recent development in the University’s policy on additional time for timed online exams for those who are entitled to reasonable adjustment.

Over the weekend, those of you who have a reasonable adjustment in place will have received an email from Prof Jill Morrison, Vice Principal and Clerk of Senate, advising that in addition to the 100% additional time allocated for your online exams, you also have up to one additional hour in which to submit your exam papers. If your exam requires you to upload documents, you may do so up to 60 minutes after the normal time via the Helpdesk (IThelpdesk@glasgow.ac.uk).  If you are entering answers directly into Moodle (rather than downloading the exam script first), the additional hour will be made available to you automatically.

From the outset of discussions for this exam diet, our student representatives have been working behind the scenes in University committees and working groups, making use of the contacts available to us, to push for disabled students’ voices to be included and valued in the planning for online assessments. After lobbying the University for some weeks and repeatedly raising concerns from our Council reps as well as from the student body about the legality of existing assessment policies, we are really glad to see that provisions have finally been put in place to ensure that students who are entitled to further additional time will now rightfully receive it.

For a full explanation of how the further additional time for timed online exams will work and who you can contact in your School with specific queries please refer to the email that should have been sent to you on 24/04 by Prof Jill Morrison.

If you have not yet registered with the Disability Service, but believe you should qualify for the additional time, please speak with your School about this as soon as you can.

As always, if you have any further concerns surrounding this issue or relating to exams generally, please do get in touch with us here at the SRC so we can continue to advocate on your behalf and secure the best outcome for all students.
