LGBT History Month

Taking place during the month of February, the SRC run events to celebrate LGBT History Month and this vibrant part of the UofG community

To celebrate LGBT History Month the four student bodies, Glasgow University Students’ Representative Council,  Glasgow University Union, Queen Margaret Union and Glasgow University Sports Association, along with GULGBTQ+ and the LGBT+ Staff Association have come together to create a diverse line-up of events throughout February. Keep checking this page as we’ll update as more events are announced, and also check out the University events line-up too

To mark the beginning of LGBT History Month we will raise the rainbow flag at the South Front followed by some speeches and tea and coffee in the Williams Room.

7th February, 19:00 GULGBTQ+, Scran in the QMU Terrence Higgins Trust Talk Talk from speaker from THT about lived experiences with HIV
8th February, 19:00-22:00 Gilchrist Postgraduate Club Gilchrist Postgraduate Club Quiz Join quizmaster Kenny in the Gilchrist for a chance to win vouchers for free food/drink in the Gilchrist or even a cash prize! The quiz is open to everyone, undergraduates, postgraduates, and staff and costs £1 to enter; what a bargain! To celebrate LGBT History Month Kenny will be including a special LGBT round so brush up on your knowledge of all things LGBT and bring your friends for a great night!

Diversity Book Group: Jackie Kay’s Trumpet Lauren from the SRC and Eleanor from the LGBT+ Staff Network will facilitate this month’s book group discussing Trumpet,  the debut novel of Scottish writer and poet Jackie Kay.
14th February, 19:30 GULGBTQ+ and Sexpression, TBC ‘Sex and Booze Party’ A fun yet informative night addressing sex education and myths around sex in the LGBTQ+ community.

27 February, 13:00-13:30 The Hunterian, Hunterian Museum Insight Talk: LGBT Migrants in Scotland from Central Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union Dr Francesca Stella, GRAMNet, delivers an informal 10 minute talk with time for questions, free and open to all
27 February, 6.30-TBC Astrosoc, LT 222 Kelvin Building #QueerAstronomer – Insights on being LGBTQ+ in a science-driven community As a queer astronomer, Ph.D student Brynley Pearlstone discusses this particular intersection through his own insights, and those of others in the field. Join us afterwards in the common room for some light refreshments and an informal Q&A.
