Volunteering Clubs and Societies Week

Between the 12th and 16th of February, Glasgow University Students’ Representative Council, along with a range of charities, student media and clubs and societies are hosting a variety of events for the SRC Volunteering, Clubs and Societies Week 2018.

This week celebrates the fantastic extra-curricular activity our students do on and off campus. It is also an opportunity for you to learn more about what you can do during your time at University outside your academic studies. 

It’s an chance for you to learn more about volunteering opportunities, for clubs and societies to showcase their activities and for you to build on your graduate attributes.

Monday 12th

Introduction to Volunteering, Clubs and Societies Williams Room
12-3pm
Come along to find out about all the exciting volunteering opportunities that the SRC has to offer and find out more about the clubs and societies at Glasgow University. Meet the Student Volunteering Support Service Coordinator and the Vice President for Student Activities to find out how volunteering, clubs and societies can benefit your CV and enhance your graduate attributes on and off campus.

Tuesday 13th

Volunteering Networking Event Williams Room, McIntyre Building
11am-2pm
Are you looking to apply for a graduate job or internship in the third sector? Are you interested in volunteering and looking for more opportunities to boost your CV? This event gives you the chance to network with registered charities and to find out more about their volunteering opportunities.
Eurovision Society: Mamma Mia Screening Williams Room, McIntyre Building

7pm

Do you love ABBA as much as Eurovision Society do? Make sure you come along to this super trouper of a night where they’ll be showcasing this legendary movie. There’ll be snacks and drinks available on the night for a small donation of money money money.
Glasgow Guardian Contributors Meeting & Introduction to News Reporting Workshop Room 208, McIntyre Building
5.30-7.30pm
Come along to the Glasgow Guardian’s contributors meeting where students share ideas on potential stories for publication in their newspaper and online. Stick around after for an introduction to news reporting basics and investigation techniques.
Glasgow University Amnesty International: The Importance of Trade Unions feat. Better Than Zero
GUU Bridie Library

An informative session on the importance of trade unions and the history of them in the UK, followed by a speaker called Bryan Simpson from ‘Better than Zero’, a trade union group fighting against zero hour contracts and exploitation in the hospitality industry.

Wednesday 14th

St. Andrews First Aid: Kiss of Life Williams Room, McIntyre Building
11am-3pm
Want to find out about basic first aid techniques and how you can save someone’s life? Pop along for a workshop from St. Andrews First Aid!
Students Action for Refugees (STAR)’s Secret Valentine Delivery Service Level 3 of Library Stall
9am-5pm
Got a crush on the good-looking guy who sits by level 5 printers? Want to cheer up a mate with an unrequited love on level 8? Just want to show your friend how much you love them and apologise for not taking the bins out? STAR are here to save the day! Send a rose to that special someone with our Secret Valentines Delivery Service! On February 14th we’ll be delivering roses to unsuspecting individuals around campus for just £2 each. Sign up online or catch us on level 3 by the café all day. Fire Cupid’s bow this Valentine’s Day – all proceeds go to charity supporting refugees.
