theGIST (Glasgow Insight into Science and Technology)

theGIST is an award-winning student science website

theGIST is an award-winning student science website (and magazine bi-annually!) that lets students get real experience writing, editing, or producing multimedia about science.

Everything is written, edited, produced, and designed by us! Our board is made up of different students throughout the University, and we have over 300 contributors who help us put together Glasgow’s largest science magazine twice a year, or snippets and features for our website the-gist.org.

No experience is needed – we pair all writers with a copy-editor to assist with the writing process, and a specialist editor if you’re working on a Feature. If writing isn’t your thing, you can get involved with multimedia production – we produce a monthly podcast, available on iTunes (theGIST Podcast), and videos for our YouTube channel, and we’re always looking for new people to help put them together.

You can find out how to get involved by joining our theGIST Contributor’s page on Facebook, or submitting an article idea for our Headline Deadline (first Friday of the month). More information can also be found on our Get Involved page at the-gist.org. It looks great on your CV, and we’ve won awards from the SPA, ABSW, and the Guardian Student Media Awards.

Meetings are held every other week and are open to all contributors. Dates/times/locations will be posted on our theGIST Contributor’s page. If you have any questions, you can contact us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or email us at editor@the-gist.org – we look forward to hearing from you!
