SRC Sabb Blog #1 – VP Education

Throughout academic year, GUSRC sabbatical officers will provide an update on the work they’ve been carrying out to make your experience at the University of Glasgow even better. Our first update for this month comes from VP Education, Hannah-May Todd

Hi everyone! My name is Hannah and I’m your VP Education at the SRC. Along with the rest of the SRC Executive team  we’ll be updating you throughout the academic year on what we’ve been doing to make your experience at the University of Glasgow even better – and I’m going first! Over the last few months I’ve managed to achieve a fair few wins and set other things in motion which hopefully will give positive results! Below I’ve highlighted some key areas of work up until now. I hope you’re happy with my progress.

Moodle

I’ve developed ‘Moodle Basecamp’ a set of recommendations minimum requirements for all Moodle courses I am presenting the University’s Learning and Teaching Committee this month. This should mean all Moodles will, at the very minimum, include things like a course handbook,  course leaders details (etc.)

Lecture recording #lecrec

Since this campaign launched last month, myself and colleagues on Council have met with staff to encourage them to discuss and opt in to lecture recording. I’ve also been lobbying the University to increase the number of teaching rooms with recording capabilities and in discussions to review the current policy.

24/7 Library Access

As you may have seen, we’ve working with the Library to trial 24/7 access in the run up to and including the December Exam diet – something I am very proud of!  We want to persuade the University to keep the library open 24/7 in the longer term so we’re keen to get as much student feedback as possible during this trial – do let us know your thoughts.

Student Teaching Awards

Nominations opened 6th November for our annual celebrations of those who support us at UofG and we have already received a high number of nominations so thank you already! If you know an outstanding lecturer, a great student representative or someone who has made a difference to your time here, be sure to nominate!

In partnership with the university, an internship project has been launched to help students and staff work together to improve assessment and feedback. Applications are now open so please do make used of this to improve assessment and feedback in your school or department.
