Elderly Persons Project

SVSS work with two elderly care homes throughout the year and send volunteers along to provide a friendly ear and company to the residents and put a smile on the faces of elderly people in the local community.

Volunteers are offered training on how to work with residents, which includes issues such Dementia and Alzheimer’s, and this can be provided either by the SVSS Development Officer or staff at the residential homes.

Volunteer placements usually consist of one afternoon or morning a week, but a more regular commitment can be arranged with staff at the care homes.

SVSS also receives a regular charitable grant from the University’s Settlement fund for the project that gives volunteers the opportunity to take a more hands-on role and organise events for the residents.

Both homes, Henderson House and David Cargill House, are located near the University in the West End, so you won’t even have far to travel.

Interested? Then call the SRC on 0141 339 8541 or e-mail volunteer@src.gla.ac.uk.

Please note:
All volunteers working with vulnerable adults will be subject to a criminal records check (enhanced Disclosure) before they can start their placement – so the sooner you want to get started the sooner you should drop a line to SCA to get the Disclosure process started!
