Sports Coaching
What is it?
Well, as the names might suggest, it’s a sports-based scheme run jointly by the SRC and Culture & Sport Glasgow.
Open to all students, the scheme allows you get involved in a variety of sports (football, athletics, even table-tennis) and kids clubs across the city and even to go on and gain coaching qualifications through courses run by Glasgow City Council. Even if you don’t think that you’re quite up to “coaching” per se quite yet, there are still plenty of opportunities available, including:
- Helping out at sports clubs
- Volunteering at one of the numerous sporting events run in Glasgow during the year including the Great Scottish run, the Gymnastics Grand Prix or the International Badminton Championships.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please call the SRC on 0141 339 8541 or e-mail volunteer@src.gla.ac.uk. The SRC are required to ask all students who will go on to work with children under the age of 18 or vulnerable adults to complete a Disclosure Scotland form, and you collect one of these from the SVSS Coordinator on the first floor of the John McIntyre building.
For further information on what is available to you, you can also email Steven Coulter, Club and Volunteer Development Officer at Culture and Sport Glasgow.
