Psychology Grants
The Department of Psychology department has been gifted a sum of money by the University Settlement to enable them to provide small grants to help students in completing their maxi projects.
The main proviso of this funding is that the projects funded should attempt in some way to enhance the “social good” of the people of Glasgow.
You can apply for money to that will help you to complete your maxi project. This can mean a number of things such as travel expenses, small items of equipment, psychometric tests etc. It has also been suggested that students can use the money to pay for questionnaires to be posted on sites such as “Survey Monkey”, although it cannot be used to fund subject payments to students.
£1,000 was given to the Department of Psychology in 2007/08, 2008/09 and 2009/10 and below are some examples of the areas that have been funded thus far:
- The thought process behind alcohol consumption
- Examining body image in participants with Autistic Spectrum Disorders
- Examining the relationship between eating disorders, age and regular exercise
- Examining the effect of exercise on the over 55 yr’s cognitive ability
- The role of meditation in improving memory
It is envisaged that the University Settlement will again offer the Department of Psychology the chance to provide grants to their students in 2010/11, and interested students should contact Dr Paul Bishop at p.bishop@psy.gla.ac.uk
