University Emergency Services
If you are off campus and you are involved in a serious accident or incident, contact the local emergency services first and then let the University know as soon as possible thereafter so that any appropriate assistance can be provided. A serious incident would involve death or serious injury or risk from an accident, natural disaster, political disturbance or similar event. In these circumstances, use the following number to make a PPA (Please Provide Assistance) call to the University reversing the charge if necessary.

Say you are making a “PPA call” and be ready to give:
- A brief description of what has happened
- What help is required
- Names and other details of those involved
- A contact phone number (and alert someone there to expect calls)
- Agree a time to phone again University assistance can include help with repatriation, enlisting support from insurers and local agencies, notifying relatives, fielding media inquiries.

Nightline
Please note that Nightline will not answer calls during the Winter Vacation period. Normal service will resume on Jan 7th.
While Nightline is not available, you can call Breathing Space, the Scottish Government listening and advisory service. Specialist advisers will be available every day throughout the Christmas period, from 6.00pm – 2.00am Monday to Thursday, and 24 hours over the weekend. Breathing Space can be contacted on 0800 83 85 87, or 0800 31 71 60 for the minicom service.

During the winter period some transport services will not run to normal timetables. Please check with the provider before booking. Also please leave lots of time if you are travelling as some services and roads will be affecting by the winter weather.
