STREET NEWSPAPERS WORKSHOP

The International Network of Street Papers (INSP) supports a large number of street paper projects worldwide to create employment for homeless people. Connecting over 100 street papers in over 40 countries, the organisation has assisted over 250,000 poor and vulnerable people since 1994. In this workshop session you can get a chance to meet representatives from the organization and find out more about how to get involved with one of the world’s biggest free newspapers networks.

Maree Aldam is Network Development Officer for the International Network of Street Papers (INSP). Franck Martin works alongside Maree Aldam for the INSP in Glasgow. He is also a former editor of Glasgow University Magazine and former news editor of Glasgow University Guardian.

John MacKay, broadcast journalist, television presenter and producer, is currently the chief anchor for STV News at Six and also presents and produces the STV online video blog, The Real MacKay.

BBC COMEDY Q&A SESSION

BBC Scotland’s new Executive Editor for Comedy, Jemma Rodgers, talks about the highs and lows of making it big in the comedy business in this informal question and answer session. Find out about one of the most creative and exciting industries in television, and pick up some tips and tricks from a woman who’s worked with some of the UK’s most talented and award winning comic writers – from Irvine Welsh to Victoria Wood.

Jemma Rodgers is Executive Editor for Comedy at BBC Scotland. She has produced hit shows such as The League of Gentlemen, Wedding Belles, and God on Trial, and has worked on many other world-renowned comedy programmes including Absolutely Fabulous and French and Saunders.

The news team is responsible for writing, producing and editing the station’s news bulletins and podcasts on the latest local, national and international news, along with one-off documentaries. This session will show you how to get your foot in the door of student radio journalism.

In this workshop session, the Subcity News team will show you how to make an effective and informative news podcast to a tight deadline. The session will also include tips and tricks about interview etiquette, recording and editing training and other general skills necessary to compete in the world of radio journalism.
