Engineers Without Borders Glasgow
Interested in International Development?
First things first, EWB is not just for engineers!
Whilst the placements do require a certain level of technical ability, EWB-Glasgow offers a number of talks and training events open to everyone which could be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for to expand your knowledge and skill set beyond the scope of your degree discipline. EWB-UK is funded by the Department For International Development and your involvement could open doors to a career with a number of high profile charities and NGO’s.
In Jan 2007 EWB-UK boasted 16 affiliated University based branches with a combined membership of around 4000. Our society works together with the University of Strathclyde to form EWB-Glasgow in order to support the work of the charity.
Currently we meet Tuesdays at 5:30 pm in the Adam Smith building, room 903 (T318). These are normally short meetings where we discuss upcoming events and come up with ideas for activities we want to set up. This year we’re running a sanitation research and design project, and meetings for this are in the same room, starting around 6:00.
Branches form the local focus of EWB-UK’s work allowing students to get involved and learn more about international development. Involvement in branch activities offers members the opportunity to meet like minded people and focus on removing barriers to development using engineering.
For EWB-UK, branches play an essential role in publicising the organisation, helping them recruit volunteers, as well as raising money for the organisation.
