ZHAOFENG ZHOU – PRESIDENT

ZHAOFENG ZHOU - PRESIDENT

My name is Zhaofeng Zhou and I am currently a PhD student in the LBSS faculty and am seeking your vote for President. As a PhD student, I have experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level which will enable me to identify with students’ concerns more easily. I am an international student which also makes me better equipped to represent the huge diversity of the University’s 24,000 students.

I am currently the Postgraduate Convener and have also stood as a course representative for research students in the LBSS faculty. These positions have given me the opportunity to represent students at the University, something which I enjoy and would continue to do in the role of President.

If elected, I will:

•Organise the SRC effectively and relevant to the needs of the University’s 24,000 students.
•Hold drop-in sessions with students to enable students to bring their concerns and opinions directly to me.
•Set up an “ask Joe” forum where students can get in touch 24 hours a day.
•Raise awareness of the SRC as a whole across campus and also the services that are on offer to students.
•Strengthen the relationships between the SRC and the other student bodies on campus (GUU, QMU and GUSA) to provide better student services.
•Promote co-operation between different clubs and societies in order to maximise students’ interests.
•Campaign for an increase in Scottish Government funding for the University to ensure staff cut backs do not take place.
•Campaign for 24 hour opening of the main library.
•Campaign across Campus for better and cheaper food and drink.

I am fully aware of what the role of the President involves and will do my best to serve students, whether that is on Campus, across Scotland or further afield.
