STRUAN CAMPBELL – PRESIDENT

STRUAN CAMPBELL - PRESIDENT

I could talk about my experience as Vice President (Student Support) or my three years attending SRC council meetings. I am sure this has helped me and given me the skills I need to be a successful President. But the President’s role is not to look back: it is to make sure the SRC builds on its successes and is truly representative. The SRC’s work affects students on a daily basis. From campaigning on vital student issues to providing a safe minibus service, the SRC contributes to students’ lives. Yet how many people know what the SRC actually does? We need to make sure that students know about what we do, so that they can engage with our work.

I’m the first to admit that we’re not going to become a truly representative body over the course of one year. I’m not going to set unreachable targets, but I believe that by providing the best quality services we will create momentum in the organisation so more people will get involved with the SRC.

I have worked tirelessly on issues which affect students, and I believe in making practical changes to tackle real student concerns. I promise, for example, that I will make sure that the internet speed in halls is improved for all students by working with the University and Masterpoint.

As President, I will ensure that the Council is well supported to become more representative, so that we are dealing at all times with issues which are relevant to you. After all, it’s your SRC.
