GAVIN LEE – PRESIDENT

GAVIN LEE - PRESIDENT

My year as VP (Learning and Development), in addition to my two years on Council, involvement with Clubs and Societies and Freshers’ Week, has given me the understanding of student issues to take the SRC forward on the matters important to you.

I want to see an SRC that works for the students. The SRC must use its relationships with the University and become a stronger voice on campus and national issues.

As VP (L&D) I have:

-fulfilled my manifesto pledges
-trained and supported more student reps
-given bigger grants to clubs and societies and I’m working to make affiliation quicker and easier for you
-worked with the University to improve Advisers of Studies and establish PDP to make things work for you
-run the SRCs most successful and ambitious Freshers’ Week
-campaigned at a national level for the Government to ‘Dump Student Debt’ and to abolish the Graduate Endowment

As President I would:

-Raise the profile of the SRC on campus, building on the work so far this year, achieving actual results for students
-Create dedicated space on campus for mature and international students
-Ensure feedback on assessments is improved
-Promote, support and develop volunteering opportunities
-Push the SRC and the University to go ‘green’ – increasing recycling and the use of ‘green materials’ in future building developments
-Make sure the SRC has a strong national voice on issues like student debt and student housing

I have a strong record of making things happen; improving things for students.

I want to see an SRC that follows through on its promises and pressures the City Council and the Government to do so also.

I am the President with the experience and enthusiasm to make the SRC work for you.
