As the President of the SRC, I’m involved in the overall running of the organisation. This involves quite a number of varied tasks. I’m the main student representative on a lot of university committees, especially Court and Senate, the governing bodies of the uni. While each of the Vice Presidents have specific remits, the President has to concentrate on the more strategic priorities within the SRC. As President, I also have responsibility for looking after equal opportunities for students and for the organisation.
The President has a key role in the management of the SRC and in ensuring we provide high quality services to students. I chair a number of committees, including Council meetings and Executive Committee meetings. I’m also the Glasgow uni representative to external organisations that the SRC is a member of such as the Aldwych Group and the Coalition of Higher Education Students Scotland as well as to external press.
Last year, I was VP Learning and Development, and an Arts Ordinary on Council previous to that. I’ve also been involved in the unions and a class rep while I was studying English Literature and Social Policy.
Getting involved in activities around the uni is one of best things I’ve done in my time here at Glasgow, and I’d encourage anyone to do the same. If you want to meet new people, share interests with friends or learn new skills, then Glasgow offers you so many new opportunities to do this.
