"Class Rep Training was a really useful session where I learnt all the skills I needed to make sure I felt fully equipped to take part in meetings with staff as an equal. It was also a great way of meeting other Class Reps and making friends in the process.” - Josh Sutherland, Class Rep 08/09
In order for your role as a class representative to be recognised on your university transcript, you must attend a training session.
Class Reps are essential to both the University and the SRC. They allow students to air their views to the academics that run their department on issues like course content, teaching and resources. They are the first point of contact for students who have a problem, or suggestion about a class as a whole.
Class reps are elected for both UG and PGT courses. Postgraduate Research Students fulfilling this role are known as PGR reps.
Any student at the University can become a Class Rep. Class Reps are elected in class during the first few weeks of each semester withthe class lecturer or course convenor organising an election, sometimes with assistance from College/School Conveners. It’s quite simple, no big speeches required. Just give a quick “hello", tell the class your name and why you would be a good Class Rep.
The SRC provides training for Class and PGR Reps at the beginning of each semester and can be contacted throughout the year for support and advice. Training is an important part of the role and will give you the tools to tackle issues any arising.
Training is available to all student representatives who have not yet attended a session. Sessions typically last for around two hours. They’re held in the Williams Room which is upstairs in the John McIntyre Building. Remember to fill out the sign-up sheet at the start of the training session- if it isn’t filled out the training won’t be recorded on your academic transcript.
Training usually starts at the end of Week 4 and runs until Week 8. This page will be updated with new dates as they are organised.
