For the first time in Glasgow Uni history all 4 student bodies have teamed up to put together a huge range of events as part of Refreshers' Week. SRC, QMU, GUU and GUSA will be hosting activities across campus for everyone to get involved in. The aim of Freshers' Week is to make you feel at home and for students to settle in, but we just decided that one week in September wasn’t enough and so we’re doing it all over again... Just for you! We've lot of students joining us for a semester abroad, students who missed out first time round and those who just can't get enough of campus entertainment so we've put on a wide range of activities from ceilidhs to quizzes.
The Students' Representative Council will be closing at 12:30pm on Friday 19th December for the Christmas break. The SRC Welcome Point and Reception will reopen on the Monday 5th January at 9:30am. The SRC Advice Centre on Monday 5th January at 11.30 am. The SRC Bookshop will reopen a week later on Monday 12th January at 9:30am.
The SRC has responded to the Scottish Government's Consultation on a new tenancy for the private rented sector by arguing for a fairer approach to rent setting in the private sector that will make rent levels more affordable to students. In the response we state that while some rents may be proportionate to the landlords mortgage on the property "this cannot be the sole criterion to determine rent levels, even if it means the landlord may be operating at a loss."
We know that main campus is crowded this time of year with essays due and exams coming up fast, so the SRC has been working hard to get some extra spaces for you to study in.
Exams are tough on any student so we have a programme of events to give you exam tips, relieve stress or even provide you with an excuse for a wee bit of procrastination – all for a good cause of course.
